COMMISSION
Let’s write something that fits your ensemble
Commissioning a new piece doesn’t have to be intimidating. Whether you have a detailed vision or just a spark of an idea, the process begins with a conversation.
Many of the directors I work with are first-time commissioners, and I’m happy to guide the process step by step.
How the process works
1. Conversation: We talk about your ensemble, goals, instrumentation, level, and timeline.
2. Planning: I outline scope, length, timeline, and fee so expectations are clear.
3. Writing & Collaboration: The piece is written with flexibility and rehearsal realities in mind. As initial ideas take shape, I share them to ensure we’re aligned and that the music is something you and your ensemble are excited to rehearse and perform.
4. Delivery & Support: You will receive a professionally engraved score and parts, along with ongoing support as you prepare the work. Minor revisions after delivery — including additional doublings or other small adjustments — are included in the commission process to ensure a successful performance.
Featured Commissions
Forever Golden — Concert Band
Commissioned to honor longtime community supporter Inez Hardee, this work was created in close collaboration with the ensemble and director to balance musical depth with student accessibility.
Mariposa — Orchestra
Mariposa is an orchestral commission exploring transformation and growth, written collaboratively for the Circle City Orchestra and premiered in spring 2025. The work was later featured by the same ensemble at the Indiana Music Education Association Professional Conference in 2026, reflecting my ongoing focus on orchestral writing that balances expressive color with clarity and practicality.
